As parents we cloister our kids and manual them through their early decades of living and education, but after our youngsters strike high school, we expect them to take a more person see of the learning. At the same time frame, we have only a simple understanding of what the knowledge process expects of these (at least initially) and compounding that, we have little knowledge of the senior high school subjects our children are now being subjected to. Unlike primary school wherever reading, punctuation, and maths were quite simple, senior high school matters are significantly complex and often rise above our personal capacity to offer our kids with advice and assistance. Due to this we consciously -- or subconsciously -- abrogate our responsibility as parents. We sort of wish high schools and teachers can pick up the slack and we give around our responsibilities of our children'training to the'system'- and that is not good for our youngsters, and what is negative for our youngsters is negative for us.
All of this occurs when our youngsters actually need people the most. Not merely must they deal with colleges, teachers and education, the hormonal improvements they are getting through puts further force on them.
Add to the combine issues around school romances, boyfriend/girlfriend liaisons, the pressure of research, violence dilemmas and stress brought on by the raising pace of computer and internet technologies -- all this Singapore secondary school build to the'perfect surprise'affecting your child's sense of self price and identity. Anger and frustration comes around and parents tend to be in the shooting line.
On the front-line of the battle, parents should get - or regain -- control. As carers, it's up to us to get our children from the conclusion of major school to graduation from senior school with adequate academic capacity to battle professions and other life's challenges.
While it may seem patently evident, extremely parents learn about what they have done right (or, painfully, what they have done wrong) over these years from the'college of difficult knocks'- and for the reason that'college ', there are several, if any, text-books.
As parents of two young ones who've gone through this, we chose to throw a light on the procedure to give some guidance to other parents that are in the beginning of the high school path, help for individuals who maybe part way through it -- and solace to'shell-shocked'parents whose children could have recently graduated. In these usually grinding, unforgiving decades, we believe the better-armed you are to make proper decisions today can help you greater realize and help the kids, and give you a way to have a strong breath and soldier on knowing you are maybe not alone.
